Involve 4!

This INVOLVE revolved around the ‘World Literacy Day’ which falls on the 8th of September 2008. This ‘Involve’ was a very special one as 'the new Learning centre was a ‘child’ of ‘Volunteers’ was celebrated on the 6th of September 2008.
The learning Centre where the INVOLVE took place was initiated about 2 months back in the Kodambakkam area. This has been supported by our NGO partner Aid India.

iVolunteer has been working closely with Aid India and volunteers have been visiting their centers regularly for teaching and many Involve events have also been conducted in the Aid Learning centers as well.

Preparations included making sure that the children made it for the event. So there were volunteers of who went out into the slums to bring the children for the event that evening.


The event started off as usual with introductions, the Children were hesitant while the volunteers were not too sure how to begin. There were 20 children present and 8 volunteers.

An active volunteer soon broke the ice. Soon the volunteers plunged into the activity, by dividing the kids into groups and 2 volunteers assisted one team of children. Totally there were 5 such groups.

After an hour of interviewing and questioning, laughter and fun the volunteers and the children bonded and the KNOW ME chart was also ready for presentation. Following which the kids came by in groups and presented their work.

Once the’ presentation’ was over the children the volunteers took their groups of children and started off with the basic teaching sessions for the children, where they taught the children a)basic mathematics b) Basic English

The whole activity had lasted a good 3 hours, when it was time to say good bye, the children literally brought down the roof by yelling and screaming their hearts out.

The volunteers proud that their few hours had made a difference and the children shining bright and happy to have made new friends, INVOLVE 4 spread joy and happiness with colorful smiles and thoughts.

As usual there were volunteers who signed up to volunteer at the center regularly.
